Professor Ann Looney will be the first female presidential appointee to the GAA’s management committee as new president Larry McCarthy reaffirms his commitment to having female representation on all central committees during his three-year term. A newly elected president can make two appointments to management for their three-year term and the current executive dean of DCU’s Institute of Education is one of McCarthy’s choices. She has an extensive CV having worked previously as CEO of the National Council for Curriculum, and interim CEO of the Higher Education Authority. Professor Looney is also president of the International Professional Development Association and a board member of Early Childhood Ireland and the Ark Cultural Centre for Children. In recent years the chief executives of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association Helen O’Rourke and Camogie Association Sinéad McNulty have been non-voting members of management.
