A draft position statement from the British Medical Association (BMA) has also warned drafting SAS doctors into general practice is 'not viable'. So, right now there are almost 2,000 more doctors working in general practice than there were in 2019. NHS chiefs hope that this promise will assuage GP concerns about a greater use of SAS doctors. The General Medical Council, which regulates doctors, is also pushing for reforms to let more SAS doctors work in GP surgeries.
