This job is enough to drive anyone battyAlison Beath The endangered short tailed bat is an ancient species unique to NZ which is only found in a few locations. Alison Beath Senior ranger, Alison Beath and her team are busy recording how many short tailed bats are in Rangataua Forest. Rats, stoats and cats destroy short tailed bats inside their habitat but Beath was hopeful the population is still thriving. She said they would not know the health of the bat population until the monitoring ends in the next few weeks. The short tailed bat have adapted to foraging on the ground for food unlike other bats who catch their prey in the air.
