The memorial, opened on Saturday, is the third to come about as a result of the efforts of the Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation - the others are in Australia and France. Supplied Donkeys were among the many animals that went to war alongside Kiwi troops to help comfort soldiers and carry equipment. A museum spokesperson said war animals included any animal used to aid or comfort defence personnel.
