Before he met Shamar Moses four days prior to the Ontario Hockey League draft, Barrie Colts coach/general manager Marty Williamson had watched Moses play a few times this season. He was aware Moses had offensive talent, with physical attributes that would be the envy of a lot of NHL players. A former defenceman who became a right winger just last season, Moses, with Kirton’s encouragement, concentrated on exposing the skill elements of his game. Last year, Brooks also founded Seaside Hockey, which provides visible minority youths the opportunity to play in the Greater Toronto Hockey League. “When I was doing the deal with the NHL, I said, ‘These kids are going to be the next generation of NHL players’” Stewart said.
