Buying a bare patch of land to build a house on can be fraught with legal wrangling, hidden costs and unexpected issues. If your section is in an existing neighbourhood you might want to speak to the neighbours, just as with buying a house. If the section you have your heart set on already has its title issued then things can be a little more straight forward. If the title for the section hadn't been issued yet - which was common in new subdivisions - things could be much more complex, Hofmann-Body said. Hofmann-Body said he had one client purchase a section in 2017 which still didn't have a title issued and so still couldn't be built on two years later.
