The recovery isn't a sentimental act of symbolic justice; it isn't even simply about recovering the bodies of our loved ones. It is the best chance we have to get someone in court to answer for the wrongful deaths of 29 men. I can understand why this issue of criminal justice might not be the first thing people think of when they think about Pike. We have deliberately avoided talking publicly about the criminal investigation because our independent legal advice is it could put potential prosecutions at risk. The money being spent on drift recovery is being spent to get justice for 29 homicides.
