Theresa May has told ministers to “get planes flying again” in an attempt to boost the economy and called on No 10 to introduce coronavirus testing at airports. The former prime minister’s intervention came shortly before Whitehall announced that holidaymakers returning from Portugal to England would be required to quarantine from Saturday — a move that brings the country in line with Scotland and Wales. Mrs May is the latest in a string of MPs to call for the measure to be introduced at airports in an effort to reduce the 14-day quarantine period or remove it altogether. “I’m certain that testing has to be the way forward in the foreseeable future, but at the moment airports aren’t even permitted to trial tests on passengers.
