KUCHING: There will be no referendum on Sarawak's position in Malaysia, the Sarawak Legislative Assembly heard. Dr Juanda had asked whether a referendum would be held if Sarawak failed to regain its rights under MA63 from the federal government. State rights groups, such as Sarawak for Sarawakians, have been calling for a referendum to decide on the state's position. Sharifah Hasidah also said negotiations with the federal government on state rights had been proceeding smoothly so far through the Cabinet's steering and technical committees on MA63. "We also thank the federal government for agreeing to set up a parliamentary select committee to discuss these matters.
