Remember that when you encounter a snapshot of Black life during Black History Month, the shortest, coldest, most miserable month of the year. Such positions are unmindful of the reality that the history of African-Canadian peoples is intertwined with Canadian history. On the ground, the reality is that even Black people know too little about Black history. Before 1981, more than half the Black immigrants came from Jamaica and Haiti, and you know where they settled: here and Montreal. There is so much to learn — Black from Black, white from Black, as Canada celebrates Black History Month.
