The President of the Ijaw Nation Worldwide, Benjamin Okaba has alleged that the Niger Delta people should be allowed to control their resources by themselves. He said in an interview with Guardian Nigeria that the Zamfara state people are able to protect their gold resources because no other state claim ownership of the resources. He argued that it's only in the Niger Delta where outsiders manages the oil resources of the Indigenous people. He said, ''Oil theft may not end in the Niger Delta until issues of resource control are addressed. Unlike in the Niger Delta, where the resources remain in the region, but are managed by outsiders.''
