Hipsy Scott brought up four children on the road and says the way of life gets into your blood. Behind the brightly coloured bunting and craft stalls of the Extravaganza Fair, there's a tight-knit community of travellers with the pull of the road in their blood. The fair stopped in Nelson over the weekend, circling their wagons and setting up stalls in Rutherford Park. Scott once worked as a dairy farmer on the West Coast, but yearned for a life on the road. Growing up with the fair makes an indelible impression on youngsters, and the strong bonds they formed exist two decades later, she says.
