Neil Ford reportsThe uptake for grid-scale renewable energy across Africa is uneven. The 500 MW-plus Noor solar complex in Ouarzazate is already the world’s biggest concentrated solar power (CSP) project. These advantages seem to have driven investment in South Africa, despite the continued dominance of coal-dependent parastatal Eskom. As more solar projects are completed, O&M costs should fall because of improved economics of scale and growing local expertise.
