The remote dairy that took a stand against cigarettes

“It was a part of the culture.”Denise Piper/Stuff Tautoro Dairy owner Sarah Matene says she's proud the store is tobacco-free, setting an example for the next generation. She polled the Tautoro community on what they wanted, including starting a conversation about the benefits of selling cigarettes and alcohol. Denise Piper/Stuff Tautoro Dairy serves an isolated rural community just south of Kaikohe in Northland's Far North. Denise Piper/Stuff Ani Nepia-Hill, 11, enjoys an ice-cream at Tautoro Dairy.
