Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced a “fair deal” panel that will examine a variety of proposals to achieve that. He stresses that this is a joint job between governments, and should focus on tax policy, innovation, efficient regulations and access to foreign markets. Regionally, some policy experts say that lowering the corporate tax rate is part of the solution. Alberta has already instituted a one per cent per year reduction to eight per cent in 2022. When it comes to the fair deal panel itself, Dodge and Dahlby agree on the impracticality of one of the proposals, namely, Alberta collecting its own income taxes.
