The 'powerful' Glasgow suburb that had its own council


Several families owned estates neighbouring Glasgow which would eventually in time be swallowed up by the city. Around the 1720s one family member, James Anderson decided to make one portion of the estate more productive by setting up a community of handloom weavers.
