Many involved in the protest claimed that they had received no aid from the government. Parvez Islam, Officer In-Charge (OC) of Badda Police Station informed that the amount of relief aid available was far below what was actually required for the area. To compound problems, councilors of wards 21, 37, and 38 were distributing relief only among their own voters, according to many protesters. The councillors had initially brought relief aid for distribution in the main roads. This prompted many deprived individuals to gather in Progati Sarani (Badda main road-Gulshan link road) in protest, said Parvez.
