Between October and December 2018, the economy grew at 6.6 per cent, the slowest in the last five quarters. Consumer goods sales are down, as are sales of consumer durables. China, on the other hand, even though it is slowing down, has gone beyond the threshold of falling into the trap. The new government will have to face this challenge squarely and with a sense of urgency. Finally, India has to become an economy where knowledge is created for sustainable development.
