Early movies were all about the eyes — the unfolding story and dialogue were right up there on the screen. “For me — and probably every other filmmaker — sound is half the movie,” says “Joker” director Todd Phillips. “And I saw just how much attention he paid to every detail, and how he built up all the layers. “He didn’t want over-the-top sound design. “We all worked together on ‘A Star Is Born’ for Bradley Cooper, and we started mixing this in Atmos, which immediately helped us give you that 360-degree-sound feeling Todd wanted,” Murray says.
