Dean Phillips, a Jewish Democrat, shattered a moment meant to be about listening and learning — not politics. His words stunned the three Muslim Democrats in the room, as well as some other Jewish members and third-party participants. Some Jewish participants of the meeting broke with people of their own faith who wanted to rebuke Omar by name. But days before the meeting, Omar again sparked an uproar with her comments about American supporters of Israel.
