The invalidation of Black voices in social work


I entered my first masters of social work class, excited and completely naive to just how emotionally challenging the journey would be. I’ve always been aware of the anti-Black racism that permeates all facets of society. However, whenever I raised the topic of anti-Black racism, I was met with silence. As a Black woman, anti-Black racism isn’t something I can ignore. I have an interesting relationship with resilience in relation to the Black experience of oppression.
