The Washington Post sits down with FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez before the start of CES 2017 to discuss data security and the FTC under a Donald Trump presidency. Analysts expect the sole Republican serving at the FTC, Maureen Ohlhausen, to step in as the FTC's next chairwoman. “Edith Ramirez brought the FTC into the 21st century,” said Jeff Chester, executive director of the Center for Digital Democracy. “Instead of focusing on really clear consumer harm, the FTC has flitted from one bright, shiny topic to the next,” Szoka said. Ramirez's impending departure from the FTC is likely to leave the agency shorthanded with three vacancies on the five-member panel.
