Yet, a Waimate farmer, who was caught up in the Mycoplasma bovis outbreak as farms around him were affected, and attended the meeting in Winton, told the crowd of Southland farmers they were lucky. Mark Shefford, of Waimate, said Southland farmers were lucky they had got a head start on the the disease, that had brought some farmers elsewhere in the country their knees. Environment Southland halted all dairy compliance work as a precaution when it became aware of the disease outbreak in Southland.
