It is plausible to think that when Anthony Oyono’s favourite player was starring at right-back, the Gabon defender was still too young to grasp the intricacies of football. However, he surely watched enough of Sergio Ramos at centre-back to call him his ideal defender. However, Oyono needs to be more proactive when his team lose the ball and are facing the transition. At Frosinone, Oyono is joined by his twin brother, Jeremy, who is technically his backup for both club and country, and fittingly will be in the squad with him in this AFCON. He will hope they perform better in 2025 after developing his game in the intervening three years (Gabon didn’t qualify for the 2024 edition).
