It is their contention that our planetary goal has to be lowering CO2 levels from the current 410 ppm (parts per million) to 300 ppm in our atmosphere by the year 2050. One of his projects involves the restoration of kelp forests around the world. The size of these 'constructed' kelp forests would be enormous -- a square kilometer, say. Kelp forests provide habitat for a lot of creatures we would want to eat. In effect, the presence of whales increases the overall biodiversity of the oceans and our depleting the ocean of whales does the opposite.
