The instability in the rental market threatens to open a fresh front in the housing crisis. The announcement by the Government was accompanied by warnings there would be an exodus of small landlords from the market. Data from the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) in recent months showed a rise in the number of notices of termination issued by landlords. However, more stock for the sales market will most likely lead to less supply in rental market. There is anecdotal evidence emerging of an even more acute shortage of rental properties in some regional towns.
