I was 12, and our family had arrived during a rainstorm at the flea market where we peddled athletic shoes. We live several years on that block in Long Beach, where my family had moved to join a growing Cambodian community. That’s how life feels when you grow up in the embrace of family, as I did. Once again, as when he led his family from Cambodia, my dad had a newborn to motivate him. Through it all, I felt the power of our family bonds and observed the fortitude of true entrepreneurs.
