The FDA is damned if it does or doesn’t regulate drug safety. This is how the need for clinical trials⁠ became established. Even if they had concluded that the teething tablets were clearly to blame, the FDA lacks authority to recall homeopathic products! Hyland’s teething tablets contains atropa belladonna (aka “deadly nightshade”) and the FDA testing found inconsistent and excessively high levels of the active drug, atropine, in the remedy. They did decide to stop manufacturing the teething tablets, however, citing “confusion among parents” over the dispute between the two.
