The FA is due to meet to discuss the plans for an independent regulator

The Football Association are set to hold top-level talks about the Government's plans to introduce an independent regulator at St George's Park. The plans for a statutory-back independent regulator were met with opposition from the Premier League on Monday, a statement saying that the organisation 'recognises and accepts the case for reform' but that a regulator 'is not necessary'. However, it is understood that the Premier League would support independent regulation sitting within The FA. This issue came into sharp focus during the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United, which was eventually approved by the Premier League. One that will protect clubs, protect fans and make governance and financial conduct of clubs and their owners stronger and more sustainable in the long term.
