The Laborers’ International Union of North America asked the Northam campaign last month to print fliers that omitted Fairfax, who is African American, so they could be distributed to members. They face a trickier balancing act going into 2018 than their GOP counterparts did vis-à-vis Barack Obama in 2010. Democrats fare just slightly better, with 27 percent saying they have confidence in the party, rising to 34 percent for Trump. … The race is on track to draw more than $9 million in campaign spending, a record-breaking sum for Washington State.
