Womad NZ, Held at Brooklands Park in New Plymouth, brought thousands of people together in the wake of the Christchurch atrocity. News of multiple deaths and injury in Christchurch was just reaching us as we welcomed several guests who'd come to stay for the Womad weekend. However other visitors encouraged her to go, pointing out that Womad was exactly the sort of event that can be seen to stand against all forms of racial hatred. Quite soon we learned that ideas of white supremacy were behind what occurred in Christchurch. Perhaps the first thing we must be willing to see is what we share with the perpetrator of this violence.
