KUALA TERENGANU: To address congestion at Terengganu’s main referral medical facility, five district hospitals would be upgraded with specialist facilities focusing on various diseases. Terengganu health department director Dr Mohammad Omar said that the district hospitals in Setiu, Besut, Hulu Terengganu and Kemaman would be adequately equipped to facilitate the ever-increasing demand for public healthcare. It is learnt that Terengganu was seeking an estimated RM100 million budget to segregate the specialist facilities at the various district hospitals. The plan, Mohammad added, was to enable the district hospitals to undertake specialist tasks for serious cases like cardiology, haemodialysis, neurology and psychiatry. “We therefore need to segregate certain facilities and shift them to other district hospitals to reduce the burden on SNZH and complement its healthcare services,” he said.
