Boustead and CSOC to build Navy vessels

BEIJING: Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd (BNS) and China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co., Ltd. (CSOC) will build the recently-announced Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) vessels purchased from China, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein disclosed yesterday. Under the deal signed during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's ongoing official visit to China, Malaysia is buying four littoral mission ships (LMS) from China. Two vessels will be built in China and another two will be made in Malaysia. The money is coming from the navy from the savings. Hishammuddin said this was an out-of-the-box thinking by the RMN to acquire defence assets in a cost effective way.
