A judge in Texas late Wednesday temporarily blocked a state law that would punish local governments and police for failing to strictly enforce immigration law, local media reported. US District Judge Orlando Garcia in San Antonio ruled that the law, known as SB 4, was vague and could "create a real danger of arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement," the My San Antonio news site reported. Major Democrat-run cities in Texas including Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas joined the challenge to the law, which was passed by the Republican-controlled state legislature in May. Last week, Trump pardoned controversial former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, who became infamous for his harsh methods of pursuing illegal immigrants in the country. Arpaio was found guilty in July on criminal contempt charges after he ignored a court order to stop imprisoning suspected illegal immigrants.
