This is a step forward for both countries that could result in tensions decreasing within the Middle East and could provide some relief to Yemen which is currently fighting one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. It is positive to see that the initiative has not been abandoned and that there is commitment to the process of improving ties with one another, despite the tumultuous history. Since 2016, Houthi rebels have been engaged with Saudi Arabia to restore the government in Yemen. Furthermore, with the country’s economy in shambles, almost 80 percent of the 30 million citizens are surviving on aid alone. What is most important is that each stakeholder approaches the table with determination and the willingness to move on.
