NewsA tense situation has been reported at the Maharagama Urban Council this morning after six new councilors representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) were sworn in. Six SLPP councilors including former Maharagama Mayor Kanthi Kodikara were took oaths as new Maharagama UC Members after six councilors representing an independent group resigned. The councilors had contested the February 10 Local Government election under the motorcycle symbol. However, a tense situation arose in the council after councilors representing the United National Party (UNP) protested the swearing in of the new members.
