A marked cooldown is on the way for the middle of the week, pausing a stretch of sizzling weather across the country. A cool southerly change following a front was expected to move over southern New Zealand on Tuesday and the rest of the country on Wednesday. Further south in Dunedin the mercury would drop from a forecast Monday high of 23C to just 15C on Wednesday, while Blenheim, which has copped temperatures in the early thirties recently picked to drop 12 degrees to 19C. Before the drop, the start of the week would see a continuation of hot weather for many. SCOTT HAMMOND/STUFF Swimmers beat the heat: Blenheim temperatures have soared this summer - but are picked to dip into the high teens this week.
