New Zealand driver Shane van Gisbergen made light of his trackside collapse after the Bathurst 12 Hour race, claiming: "Kiwis aren't made for the heat." The 29-year-old was pictured sprawled on his back on the tarmac outside his Mercedes car following the end of Sunday's epic race at Mt Panorama. Van Gisbergen said the searing temperatures and "no helmet air" made conditions gruelling. It was an eventful visit to Bathurst for van Gisbergen, whose Mercedes suffered minor front end damage after a collision with a Ferrari during a practice session on Friday.
