Louie Sam Bates had battled with depression for two years but had not sought medical assistance. Assistant coroner Crispin Oliver, heard the 19 year old lived with his mother, Lisa Mullally and his younger sister, at their home in Halifax. Mr Oliver said the teenager was found hanged by his mother when she returned home at 9am and walked up the stairs of the three-storey town house. A nearby neighbour, Alex Muff, said in a statement: "At about 9.30am Lisa came knocking on the door and said Louie had hanged himself. West Yorkshire Police sergeant Sarah Hanson, told Mr Oliver an analysis of Louie's phone showed he had sent a text message to his girlfriend.
