All signs point to another gold medal for the American men’s basketball team. What started off as a give-and-take match ended in a blowout when the U.S. men’s basketball team, a 51-point favorite, routed Venezuela 113-69 in group play on Monday. In 1996, the U.S. men’s basketball team had an SRS of plus-31.4, with Serbia and Montenegro (plus-19.1) and Lithuania (plus-14.7) also medaling. In 2016, Team USA is averaging 116 points per game with an average margin of victory of 50.5 points per game. The other is the level of competition each Olympic team has to face in the Summer Games, and that’s where the 2016 U.S. men’s basketball team could fall to second or even third among the all-time great Olympic teams.
