“Our presence representing the PO stands against the murderer of students and teachers Peña Nieto and against Macri too. “It’s up to us to show solidarity with our colleague workers in Mexico who are being tortured and killed. While the escalation of human rights abuses in Mexico has been increasingly evident for a decade or more, it is the Iguala case that has dominated international attention and the same was true at Friday’s protest. Teachers such as Ezequiel Amarilla, 36, attended in support of the thousands of teachers currently demonstrating in the face of repression in Mexico against Peña Nieto’s latest education reforms. Many of those demonstrating before the Pink House yesterday, like Adriana Garza, 22, were students, and determined to show their solidarity with the 43 missing students “disappeared” from Iguala in 2014 with what human rights organizations have dubbed as the complicity of the Mexican security forces.
