Teachers, principals launch sick-note campaign

NewsThirty unions comprising teachers and principals will engage in a two-day sick-note campaign starting today (Sept 26) primarily due to long-standing salary anomalies. The Ceylon Teachers Services Union (CTSU) claimed that salary issues in their sector have gone unresolved over the past 22 years. The CTSU added that unions would demand to cancel all appointments made using political influence, and reduce the unnecessary workload for teachers. Unions would flag-off their trade union action by taking part in a protest opposite the Fort Railway Station today, CTSU General Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe said. Apart from disrupting school sessions over the next two days, the trade union action would also see teachers refraining from reporting to mark answer scripts of this year's G.C.E.
