The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines called out the DepEd for “attempting to delegitimize” public school teachers’ just call for Php30,000 entry-level pay by declaring that a teacher 1 receives Php30,873 monthly. Citing a study by Dr. Rosario Manasan – using data from the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) Labor Force Survey in 2016 – DepEd said that on the average, public school teachers earn 71% more than private school teachers. DepEd noted the the “biggest salary gap between public and private school teachers” can be seen in the then Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) at 158%.
