KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Court has awarded RM40,000 in damages to a teacher who sought a declaration that pregnancy was not a reason for her to be denied employment. Other judges on the panel were Justices Azahar Mohamed, Zaharah Ibrahim, Balia Yusof Wahi and David Wong Dak Wah. The Court of Appeal had on Nov 23, 2016 maintained the RM30,000 damages for breach of constitutional right and damages of RM10,000 for pain and suffering. She claimed that she was offered a position as an untrained relief teacher on a month-to-month basis starting in mid-January 2009. However, the offer was withdrawn when she informed the Hulu Langat district education office that she was pregnant.
