Te Wiki o Te Maori events are planned this week at Massey University and UCOL, and a secondary schools horohopu and whaikorero tournament at Manawatu College is on Thursday. Palmerston North-based former New Zealand women's rugby Black Ferns player and Massey senior lecturer Farah Palmer (Ngati Mahuta ki te hauuru, Ngati Maniapoto), says te reo enriches teams, and te reo adopted by teams then benefits individuals. This year's Maori Language Week theme is about encouragement and support, especially in sport, which is an ideal place to foster Te Reo, a Manawatu academic says.
