Te Huia is still facing trial, but on three charges that are alternates - wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated assault, and wounding with intent to injure. As Justice Sarah Katz noted, the Crown had deemed it would be unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Te Huia's alleged violent actions were the substantive and operative cause of Hallmond's death. Hallmond, 35, died on the footpath outside a North St property about 6.45pm after an altercation on Sunday July 23.
