BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman formally launched his election campaign from Sylhet on Thursday, seeking votes for the party’s sheaf of paddy symbol at his first public rally, held at the Alia Madrasa ground. Outlining BNP’s agenda, Tarique Rahman said the party would pursue reforms to the state structure, re-excavate canals, introduce farmer- and family-based cards, and create employment opportunities if elected. “If BNP forms the government in the future, the country will be run on the basis of justice and fairness,” he said. After the Sylhet rally, Tarique Rahman travelled by road to address roadside meetings in Moulvibazar and Shaistaganj in Habiganj, where a festive atmosphere prevailed. As of 9:20pm, when this report was filed, Tarique Rahman’s motorcade was in the Madhabpur area of Habiganj.
