“I’m just so overwhelmed, it’s just so awesome,” Vicki Wall said on Tuesday, shortly after she and husband Dean officially took ownership of their three-bedroom Ōpūnake whare. The Walls are the first to buy through the shared equity model of Ka Uruora, acollective between Taranaki and Te Atiawa iwi. Under the housing programme, Ka Uruora will share the purchase cost and ownership of housing offered until whānau can afford to take full ownership. Leanne Horo, Taranaki iwi chair, said the Walls’ purchase marked the beginning of an exciting phase for Ka Uruora. “The Wall whānau epitomise the resilience and perseverance we love to see from whānau,” Horo said.
