Opinion: When I enrolled my son in kindergarten, the last thing I expected was to become a protester. But change is afoot, with plans to shake up the traditional kindergarten model and not all of us are happy about it. Last month parents received an email from the Taranaki Free Kindergarten Association detailing the results of a parent survey about proposed increased hours. A proposal to increase kindy hours to full days and open during the holidays was recently knocked back in Auckland. Kindy parents don't all need and can't all afford to put their pre-schoolers in longer hours of care.
