Taranaki Maunga’s Ambury Monument restored to mark its centenary


The Ambury Monument, near the North Egmont Visitor Centre, was erected in 1919 in honour of Arthur Hamilton Ambury, who had died the previous year while trying to save the life of a climber. Callum Mahy, Stone Creations NZ Builder Kalvin Pearce works on the Taranaki Maunga Ambury Monument. The restoration was carried out by Stone Creations NZ and the Department of Conservation. Masons from Oakura-based Stone Creations New Zealand, supported by members of the department’s Heritage and Visitor team, spent three weeks on restoration work.
